The Company

♥ Resonance Guitars was born as an official company in March of 2014.  However,  the seed of the idea came a year before that and was actually the brainchild of my eldest son.

♥ I had played guitar since I was 7 having been in several bands and leading worship still to this day.  I have always loved to work with my hands and grew up in my dad’s home shop, always making, fixing or tinkering to this day.   I taught physics for 25 years and my special interest was always in the areas of waves – sound and light including a senior research project making a CO2 laser tune-able.  But with all of this, I didn’t see how perfect lutherie would be.  It took the verbalized wish of my son concerning his own future for me to see how well suited I am for this career and my formal training began.

♥ In 2013, I built one guitar as part of my official training.

♥ In 2014, I built a second guitar as part of my further training and, on my own, managed to complete half of my guitar #003 as well as make many forms and jigs useful to my craft.  I also continued my training by taking a setup class and doing many setups and repairs.

♥ In 2015, totally on my own now, I completed my third guitar, made two more guitars (#004 and #005), taught a set up class, did many more setups and repairs, extending my craft into the world of electric guitars more, made more forms, tools and jigs, began a building class and began work on guitar #006.  Additionally, I expanded the business side of things with this web site, development of my logo and logo recognition (window clings, posters, picks and clothing).

♥2016 and into 2020, after working out of the Alma Coffee Shop for a year and a half and then out of my basement for two more years, we moved Resonance Guitars to its present home in the beautiful and quaint Fairplay Depot building on the corner of 6th and Main Street in downtown Fairplay, CO.  In this time, I expanded my building to ukuleles, built several more guitars and accomplished many more repairs on acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, violins, and even a hammer dulcimer.
